Blues looking to bounce back

Chichester RFC have a tough task if they want to bounce back to winning ways, welcoming second-placed CS Rugby to Oaklands Park tomorrow (2pm).

Scott Ashley’s side began 2018 in the worst possible way, with a heavy defeat 38-12 to local rivals Havant.

That loss saw the Hampshire side leapfrog over an injury-hit Chi up to third in London Division One South.

It does not get any easier for the Blue and Blues, who face a CS Rugby side who are nine points above them in the table.

Chi took an early lead, with prop Joe Woods crashing over after just three minutes. But Ashley’s side then contributed to their own downfall by missing three try chances when they were in the lead.

After going in at the break 13-7 down, the second period began with Chi earning two yellow cards. In the 20 minutes they were down to 14 men, they conceded 20 points to their fired-up hosts.

The only score they managed in the second half was a try for hooker Dane Gingell.

To add to their grief, Blues suffered injuries to their captain Jack Bentall who is a doubt for tomorrow’s crunch match.
