PLANS for more than 150 homes in Fontwell have been scrapped.
Welbeck Strategic Land has told Arun District Council it no longer wants to pursue its scheme for seven hectares east of Wandleys Lane and west of West Walberton Lane.
The company’s planning agent, Huw James, told Arun it had decided to stop its appeal against the council’s decision to refuse permission for the 157 dwellings.
This was because the council’s policy towards housing sites had been changed when it adopted its local plan land use blueprint to set aside sites for large-scale housing developments.
Nationally, the government’s planning framework had also been tested in various appeals.
“In light of the above, we consider that circumstances have changed sufficiently to warrant the withdrawal of this appeal,” said Mr James.
Some 190 letters of objection to the proposals were received by Arun.
They included one from Walberton Parish Council. It said the application was against its neighbourhood plan, which had been backed by residents, and had allocated several other sites to be developed.
