The Chichester Probus Club has nearly 60 members, and offers friendship and fellowship among retired business and professional men, and like minded people.
It is a luncheon club meeting monthly at the Park Hotel, Westhampnett. At the next lunch on October 13, the guest speaker will be Andrea Linell who will talk on Dementia Friendly Communities.
Andrea currently works at the Midhurst Dementia Alliance and has contributed significantly for many years. In 2014 she helped draw together many leading figures to contribute to a publication, hosted by the University of Chichester.
Within this she wrote: “The best approach for a person with dementia is to maintain as much independence as possible, but people do need information about what is happening to their brains and also what support is available. Support offered should take full account of the person as an individual, their past history, their occupation, family life, interests, likes and dislikes. Communication needs to be specially tailored to the stage of the dementia and developed as a skill, particularly in the absence of speech but all the way through the decline in cognitive functioning”.
In addition to the lunches and talks, there are coffee mornings in Chichester, a social programme and a monthly walk organised by its professional walks guide.
