Hours change at town’s waste site

OPENING times at the Bognor Regis waste recycling site will be cut from tomorrow.

The site off Shripney Road will shut on Thursdays and Fridays from next week. Its opening hours have already been cut as part of West Sussex County Council’s drive to save money.

This will also see charges brought in for non-household items like soil, hardcore, plasterboard and tyres. The fee will be £4 for each rubble bag, or part bag, or each item or sheet of plasterboard. Rubble bags, 55cm X 85cm, can be bought from DIY stores.

For a limited time, one will be given free to each resident who visits the site. There will be no charges for green waste. All other household waste and recycling materials will stay free for disposal.

Cllr David Barling, the county council’s cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “With increased demand for other essential services, coupled with reduced government funding, as a council we needed to live within our means and make savings.

“I considered all of the possible options available and decided that, as we did not want to shut sites and also to keep sites open at weekends, this was the most realistic option to take.”

Payment can only be made by Visa or Mastercard debit and credit cards.
