Dragonflyers off to finals

FIVE Bognor trampolinists have a real spring in their step after being selected to take on the best the UK has to offer later this month.

Anya Johnston, Libby Morton, Izzy Hauxwell, Sofija Kalnicenko and Taylor Cleall, pictured left, have all made the national league finals to take place at the Olympic Park in London.

Linda O’Leary, the coach of the Dragonflyers club where the girls are based, was overjoyed at the news, adding she hoped more would be able to join them in the coming weeks.

It comes after seven flyers took part in the two-day Dave Ward-Hunt International in Gillingham last weekend.

With more 500 entrants from 13 countries, competition was tough.

New to the international scene alongside Kalnicenko and Morton in the under-12s team were Rosie Budge and Lucy Hijmans.

O’Leary said: “All the girls performed superbly to take a sensational team bronze, while Kalnicenko competed her double back somersault for the first time finishing an incredible sixth out of 75 in the individual competition.”

On the Sunday, Kalnicenko jumped again to finish seventh. In the under-16s, Johnstone was placed 20th and Cleall 25th, while Hauxwell came 28th in under-14s.
