Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club is a premier centre for sports and fitness, located near the heart of Chichester itself. It boasts an impressive 10 tennis courts, 5 squash and racquetball courts, a fully-equipped gym and so much more.
We spoke to the Club Manager Jack Lerwill to find out more.
You’re known mainly as a tennis club. Why do you think that is, and what should people know about your facilities?
I believe that this is more to do with the fact the tennis courts are what you can see externally.
The Club is so much more than just a tennis club, we have 5 squash courts, a fully equipment gym, an exercise studio, a spa, steam room and sauna, as well as a fully licensed bar and restaurant.
What makes tennis with you so popular?
Members love our fantastic court surfaces, of which we have both astro turf and tarmac.
We also have a large number of courts – 9 doubles and 1 single, as well as 2 mini courts for children. These are all floodlight to ensure that play can continue all year round.
We also have a brilliant team of tennis coaches who are there to encourage and assist you with your tennis skills.
What other racquet sports do you offer?
We offer squash and racquetball, both extremely popular sports here at the Club. We even have a table tennis table available in the exercise studio.
Are there any groups available to join for these sports?
Our head squash and racquetball coach, Mike Phillips, offers a range of groups and classes here at the Club.
We also have a Club social night every Wednesday evening that is free for all members to attend.
Not everyone realises you also have a gym at the Club. What is available at this fitness suite?
A full range of both cardio and weights equipment. The Club is currently undergoing some development works to improve the gym and increase the size of the stretch area. These will be completed soon.
Membership at the Club is very popular. What other facilities are available for members?
The Club has an active social side. As well as the bar and restaurant the Club hosts various themed events throughout the year.
Every Friday evening throughout the summer we have BBQs out on the Terrace which are a great family occasion.
During the winter Tracy and her team offer a very popular restaurant service with regular live music events.
What are the social events like? Do many people take part?
Social events are well attended, we held our popular Club Christmas Celebration recently.
We are currently preparing some regular live music nights during 2017.
How easy is it to become a member? And what does it include?
Very easy, we have a range of membership options that we hope suit most needs. None of our memberships are contract based.
Feel free to pop into the Club and have a friendly tour of the facilities.
And finally, what surprises most people about the CRFTC?
What is actually on offer at the Club. The Club is much more than just a tennis or squash club.
With all the different areas at the Club bought together we hope to provide a great service which caters to everyone’s fitness needs while remaining excellent value for money.
Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club are always happy to welcome new members and their services available would be the perfect way to help you get fit in the new year.
