AN 82-foot-long rainbow will be among the new kites taking to the sky above Bognor Regis this year.
The lengthy aerial attraction will help to turn the biggest event to date into a blaze of colour. It will be joined by a coloured inflatable octopus and a pod of inflatable whales among other newcomers.
The festival will be extended to three days for the first time to enable plenty of flying time on its new date of the bank holiday weekend of August 26-28.
One of the organisers, Jan Malpas, said: “There will be top UK kite fliers travelling from all corners of the country to join our local Bognor Regis Kite Fliers Club to stage stunning displays of kites.
“Saturday and Sunday evening will see the sky illuminated with LED kites that have wonderful programmed patterns displayed during their flight.
“As well as the fantastic displays of kites, there will also be community, charity and craft stalls, live music, a variety of food outlets for different tastes, licensed bar, children’s inflatables and the very popular kite-making workshop.”
More attractions are being lined up.
This year’s festival, the third, will also have an added attraction on the ground at West Park.
Bank holiday Monday will see The Great Bognor Bake Off.
“This is a baking contest where contestants will enter a variety of classes and it will be judged by The Bearded Bakers for something new,” said Jan.
The festival will remain free for everyone to enjoy.
The Sunday will also see the traditional annual Illuminations Gala, held by Bognor Regis Seafront Lights, leave West Park at 8.30pm for its usual route along the seafront and finish at the pier.
It will be followed by a fireworks display off the pier at 10pm.
