Store gets approval for chilled space for food for Christmas

EXTRA storage space has been backed for a Bognor Regis food store.

Marks & Spencer has received planning approval for a temporary refrigerated container to be sited behind its Foodhall on the Arun Retail Park.

The retailer wants to be able to use the 40ft container at the site off Shripney Road between November 1 and January 31 annually.

Richard Temple, a planning officer at Arun District Council, says in his decision report: “The development would be located to the rear of the existing unit.

“It would not be directly visible from the street scene and is in character with the industrial character of the area.

“The residential caravan site (to the south) of the site would receive limited impact from the development as it is temporary and only single storey in height.”

He has limited the container’s use at the site to the period sought by M&S.

The company wants the container to add some 15 square metres to the site’s storage space to help to keep its shelves fully stocked during the busy Christmas period.
