MIDDLETON CC’s mid-season slump continues as Sean Heather’s side suffered a fourth defeat in five at home to Roffey.
The visitors made it home with two wickets to spare to claim victory in Sussex Premier clash as the light dimmed at the Sports Ground. The margin of defeat would have been a lot greater but for a superb score of 150 from Angus Robson.
The opener held things together as Middleton slumped to 38 for 5 after being put in to bat.
But Robson found great support from Jamie Thompson (21) and Tommy Davies (24*), putting on 97 with the latter for the ninth wicket as Middleton reached 231 for 9.
In response, Heather’s side looked in control after reducing the visitors to 70 for 4. But Roffey rallied and – despite Robson taking 3 for 26 – limped home with two wickets to spare.
Middleton will have a good chance to get back to winning ways tomorrow when they travel to Brighton & Hove (12pm), a side who are on a similar run of poor form and sit one place behind
Heather’s side in eighth in the ten-team league.
