AN EIGHT-year-old girl has selflessly donated her 12-inch-long hair to charity in aid of her best friend.
Ella Quinn, from Bognor Regis, decided she wanted to do something for her friend, Hannah Rixon, eight, who suffers from diabetes and recently lost her mum to cancer.
Ella’s mum, Carole, said: “One day Ella just said completely out of the blue that her hair was really long and she felt hot.
“She said she wanted to donate the hair to The Little Princess Trust.
“Once Ella puts her mind to something, there is no stopping her.
The charity provides free real hair wigs to children across the UK who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments or other illnesses.
Not only was Ella donating her hair, she was also asking for sponsorship for Diabetes UK.
Ella’s long pony tail was braided and elasticated, ready to be chopped off last Thursday at Salon 39 in Queensway.
Ella, who attends St Mary’s Catholic School, was joined by her mum, Carole, father, Richard, 11-year old sister, Amy, and her friend, Erin Frampton, also 11.
Lisa Lewis, co-owner of the salon, cut off Ella’s hair before washing it and styling it in to a bob.
She said: “I felt really nervous about the cut. This is the first time I’ve done anything like this before.”
Carole added: “We’re really proud of Ella. We can’t quite believe she’s actually done it. I think it makes it more lovely that she wanted to do it for her friend and that it was all completely her own idea.”
“People have been so kind sponsoring Ella and wishing her luck.”
Ella looked really pleased with her finished, styled bob at the end and said: “I’m going to grow all my hair back and do it again.”
