RESIDENTS from Bognor Regis gathered at the first community engagement forum meeting last Thursday.
The meeting, which was held at the Laburnum Centre in Lyon Street, allowed residents to discuss issues and raise points with Bognor Regis town councillors.
Despite the council holding regular surgeries in the town, the forum was created to allow more open discussions and debates.
Over 12 residents from across Bognor attended the meeting to raise questions and concerns with the four councillors present – Pat Dillon, Sandra Daniells, Jeanette Warr and Jim Brooks.
The two main topics of conversation which were brought up included questions over the regeneration of Bognor and communication between Arun, West Sussex and parish councils.
Regeneration topics included the Sir Richard Hotham project and the arcade.
As some of the members of public who attended the meeting had visited from other parishes such as Pagham, Bersted and Aldwick, there was a discussion about who was responsible for what in the area.
Cllr Daniells said: “There are 16 councillors in the Bognor wards elected by the people who live here.
“It’s not that we don’t care about the issues you are raising but if you live in parishes outside of the wards, we do not have the power to help.”
Cllr Pat Dillon added: “We feel we need to engage with the public.
“One of the biggest single issues we also face is communication. Bognor Regis Town Council have taken this initiative on.
“We as councillors can pass on points to other councillors to achieve something at the end of the day.”
The plan is for the meetings to be held bi-monthly in different locations and at different times for all to be able to attend.
