New road safety measure to help cyclists in town centre

CYCLISTS should benefit from road safety improvement work in Bognor Regis town centre.

West Sussex County Council is about to install a mini-roundabout at the junction of West Street and Argyle Road. This will replace the current ‘give way’ arrangement.

A county council spokesman said: “Road safety experts believe this will encourage drivers in West Street to slow down at the junction.”

Evening and night-time work has been planned to minimise disruption to public transport as West Street is a bus route from the town centre to the seafront.

The closure of Argyle Road, from the junction with West Street to Bassett Road, has been planned for November 13-17 to allow for the weather-dependent road painting to take place.

But the work should take just one night. The closure and diversion will be lifted as soon as the weather allows the improvements to be completed.

Two illuminated signs will be installed to highlight the new mini-roundabout. Emergency vehicle, residential and pedestrian access will be maintained.

The alternative traffic route via Aldwick Road will be signposted.
