Town electors head to polls

THREE by-elections are to be held in Bognor Regis next month.

Voters in the town’s Hatherleigh and Marine wards will go to the polls on February 22 to chose new councillors.

One of the byelections in Marine ward will be for an Arun District Council member. The other two will be to chose new members of Bognor Regis Town Council – in Marine and Hatherleigh wards.

An Arun spokeswoman said: “The byelections follow the death of Cllr Dougal Maconachie, who held seats on both councils for the Marine ward, as well as the resignation of Cllr Dan Barnes, for the Hatherleigh ward on the town council.”

Nominations for candidates are being accepted by the district council’s returning officer until 4pm next Friday. Papers must be delivered to The Returning Officer, Arun District Council, Maltravers Road, Littlehampton, BN17 5LF.

The statement of persons nominated will be published on Arun’s website on January 29. It will also be displayed at Bognor Regis Town Hall and the Arun Civic Centre in Littlehampton.
