BOXERS in Bognor Regis have benefited from the latest of an annual series of big fight nights.
The town’s boxing club was presented with a £2,800 as its proceeds from the special occasion in Butlin’s.
Hundreds of spectators attended the series of bouts between boxers who represented Sussex and Hampshire.
It has long been organised by Bognor Regis Rotary Club to help the boxers. A previous year helped the club to buy a seven-seater people carrier to take the young boxers to different tournaments.
The donation has come at a good time for the club. The 2017/18 season has been its best for many years.
A Bognor ABC spokesman said: “Firstly, GB and Bognor boxer Claudia Havranek won a silver medal representing Britain in Poland but had to withdraw from the final due to illness. It has been her best season with wins over Scotland and the Army.
“Secondly, Charley Mason became southern counties champion with a fine win over Frazer Hadaway and now goes forward into the national finals being held in Doncaster.
“Finally, the club are pleased to announce that coach Adrian Clark is now part of the national coaching squad and will bring new and up-to-date coaching ideas to the club.”
He added that the club was grateful to the support of VK’s Gym.
The 2018 boxing night will again take place at Butlin’s, on November 29. The contest will be between Sussex and the London Counties.
Tables of diners, usually ten, can be booked at £50 each with the Rotary club. Non-dining tickets will be on sale on the night at the gate at £10 each.
