New premises being sought by established town business

A WELL-ESTABLISHED business is seeking new premises in North Bersted.

Bruce Dixon Car and Van Rental has applied for planning permission to change the use of part of Chalcroft Nursery in Chalcraft Lane from the sale of caravans and motor homes to vehicle hire.

A statement by the company’s planning agent, Stephen Jupp, with the application to Arun District Council, says Bruce Dixon began in February, 1967, but was unable to stay in its present Shripney Road premises.

“They consider themselves a household name and a local brand that locals and returning visitors to the town are familiar with.

“They are approaching the end of their lease which…was a 21-year duration which they sadly cannot renew due to the landlord’s intention to demolish or reconstruct the site.”

The business employs four staff, uses a host of suppliers around the town and backs several good causes in the area, he says. It is intended to keep existing opening hours except for the Sunday evening hour.

The proposed site has become available because the caravan business is reducing its activities.
