While I fully support traffic-calming measures on certain roads, (you mention London Road, September 28), why do councils always go for speed humps?
Just as effective, visually attractive and less uncomfortable to all vehicle passengers are the chicanes used on the continent.
A simple kerb, a large planter and an evergreen shrub are all that are required.
Surely any cost difference must be minimal.
How about it?
