Councillor quits political party to align with independent group

A BOGNOR REGIS town councillor has changed his political allegiance.

Cllr Martin Lineham (Marine) has said he will now sit as an Independent rather than represent Ukip.

He cites his deep concern about the direction Ukip is taking under its present leadership.

“I joined Ukip because I felt people like me were not represented by the current three big parties and also because of the passion and values of Nigel Farage,” he said.

“I have often said that I believe at local level it should be person not party – and today I stand by that and feel the need to resign Ukip and go independent. I am still committed to Brexit but the right Brexit.

“For the remainder of my time on Bognor Regis Town Council, I will sit as an Independent.

“I feel this is the best way to serve Marine ward and town residents – and continue to be their voice on local issues,” he added.

“I’m committed and open to work cross party for the good of the town and its residents, so I will align with the Town Council Independent Group.”

Cllr Lineham was elected to the council in December, 2015.
