Ex-town councillor admits making indecent images

A FORMER Bognor Regis town councillor will be sentenced at the end of this month for child image offences.


Daniel Barnes, 40, admitted six offences when he appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He was remanded on unconditional bail to return to the court on December 31.


The charges are: making one category A indecent image of children; making four category B indecent images of children; making 180 category C indecent images of children; possessing 23 prohibited images of children, possessing an extreme pornographic image involving an animal, namely five images; and distributing three category C indecent images of children.


He is required to register with the police in accordance with the Sexual Offences Act.


Barnes, of Storrington Road, Thakeham, was elected to Bognor Regis Town Council as an Independent member for Hatherleigh ward with 99 votes in May, 2015. He stood down earlier this year.


The town council said: “Mr Barnes resigned from Bognor Regis Town Council in January, 2018, citing personal reasons in his letter of resignation to the town clerk.”
