Fire pupils shine

A GROUP of students has graduated after a week of training at Bognor Regis Fire Station.

The seven young people spent a week taking part in drills, which included hose running, ladder climbs and wearing breathing apparatus.

They also learned skills like resuscitation and fire safety by completing West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s FireBreak programme.

They took part in a pass out parade at the West Meads Drive building last week, when they received their certificates.

Graham Harmour, the lead instructor, said: “It’s been a challenging week but the students have learned a number of valuable skills which they will be able to use as they develop and grow. I am proud of each one of them for finishing the course.”

The students who graduated, and their schools, were: Brandon Rennie (St Philip Howard); Callum Hickman (Chichester High School); Jamie Banks (Ormiston Six Villages); Kai Dwyer and Keeley Brown (Seadown School); Ryan Chalk-Chambers (Cornfield School); and Taylor Kennett (Felpham Community College).Ryan also received an outstanding achievement award.

County Council cabinet member for safer, stronger committees, Cllr Debbie Kennard, said: “Well done to another fantastic group of young people who have worked hard.”
