Yapton car crime

FOUR men were arrested after a number of car break-ins in Yapton.


Police were alerted by a member of the public to suspicious behaviour in Church Lane on Sunday evening.


Officers and a dog unit attended and conducted a search which led to the men’s arrest.


All four suspects have been released under investigation while police enquiries continued.


Witnesses to the alleged incidents are being sought by the police.


DC Ben Nield said: “We are appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in this area to get in contact with us immediately.


“We would like to speak to anyone who has fallen victim to this crime or has noticed anything missing from their cars.


“Please remain vigilant and remember not to leave anything valuable in your car, park in a well-lit area and ensure all windows and doors are locked.”


Three of the arrested men live in Portsmouth. One, aged 20, is suspected of theft from a motor vehicle. The second, aged 19, is suspected of the attempted theft of a motor vehicle.


The other, a 21-year-old, is believed to have interfered with a vehicle and to have been in possession of a knife blade or sharp-pointed article in a public place.


The fourth man, a 20-year-old from Havant, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference, going equipped for the theft of a motor vehicle and possessing a class B drug.
