A FIRST Big Sleep Out is being held in Bognor Regis to help homeless people.
The Stonepillow charity is asking its supporters to swap their beds on May 11 for a cardboard shelter and get sponsored for sleeping under the stars.
A Stonepillow spokesman said: “Every penny that is raised will enable us to provide essential support to local homeless people within our community.
“We encourage participants to set themselves a target of £250 per person.
“The event does not aim to replicate homelessness but it does give those taking part a small insight into the harsh realities of rough sleeping.”
The event will take place from 4pm on May 11 at Bognor Regis Town FC’s ground in Nyewood Lane.
The registration will be followed by the building of the cardboard shelters.
A barbecue and entertainment will be provided for all the participants.
Stonepillow is marking its 30th anniversary this year. It provides support all year round in Chichester, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton and has 96 clients in its accommodation on any given evening.
