Palm Sunday came to life in Yapton on Sunday with a procession of worshippers from its village church.
The Christians from St Mary’s Church commemorated the entry by Jesus into Jerusalem a week before his trial and crucifixion.
Their parade, pictured below by Tim Bell, was led by two donkeys, Alfie and Charlie, who live locally.
Mr Bell, the church’s press officer, said: “The use of a donkey by Jesus instead of a horse was seen as symbolic in contrast to arriving on a steed in war.”
The church’s rector, the Rev Richard Hayes, welcomed the congregation, saying he wanted to explore the Easter message in detail during Holy Week and Easter Day.
Easter services including one on Sunday at dawn (6.30am) on Clymping beach and continue with communion services at Yapton (9.45am), Climping at 11am, and 7pm at Yapton.
