CAMPAIGN group members have stepped up their efforts to re-open a former Aldwick pub.
The Friends of The Ship Inn, wants to restore the Aldwick Street building to a pub and restaurant.
Roger Beam, its chairman, has told its members:
“We have engaged a professional surveyor and valuer to report on the market value of the Ship Inn building and site. We have a plan and will keep you informed how this is to be achieved and implemented.”
The group has also compiled a case for the building to continue to be treated as an asset of community value.
“The asset of community value renewal which will give the building some planning protection is now being considered by Arun District Council and a decision is expected around August 23,” said Mr Beam.
He said the situation about the building’s future had become clearer because the Morrisons lease which carried on after the convenience stores which followed the pub no longer applied.
The pub closed in 2014 and the last of the two shops shut in 2017.
