Fantastic acts, face painting and free family fun are set to make Pride’s debut in Bognor Regis a success.
Organisers of the town and district’s first event of its kind have finalised their plans for the inclusive event.
Their initial hopes for a seafront spectacular, backed by Post Newspapers, had to be scrapped because they had been unable to satisfy Arun District Council’s public safety requirements.
But they have switched their attention to staging a Pride party on the pier in Legends bar.
The aim, however, remains the same – to stage an occasion where individuals may feel accepted to express the person they are without prejudice or persecution.
Main event organiser and LGBT+ ally Sarah Boote-Cook said the supporters were determined to put the disappointment behind them.
“Pride Bognor Regis was formed to fill a gap for our LGBT+ community in Bognor Regis,” she said.
“When it became apparent that we were unable to fulfil our aim for the large Pride event we had hoped for this year, we were exceptionally disappointed and by reading comments on social media, so was our town.
“Because of this outpouring, and in the spirit of Pride moment, we decided the main Pride day, August 31, will not pass by without recognition.
“And so, the idea of Pride Party on the Pier was born, thanks to sponsors the Bognor Regis Post and Chichester Post, and Legends Pier Bar agreed to host the day.”
The doors will open at 2pm. The entertainment will begin an hour later when Cherry Liquor will take to the stage with her family friendly act.
The drag queen will be followed at 5pm by Aura Jay and at 7pm by Danii Dior and guests.
A tribute to one of the world’s most famous singers, Elton John, will end the entertainment when the Red Piano Tour Tribute features his best-known songs at 8pm.
Everyone is welcome to join in the fun, which will end at 10pm, without any discrimination of age, sexuality, gender or age.
Rainbow face art and hair colouring will be available to get everyone in the mood for the special day.
Those who go along are encouraged to dress to impress and express.
A spokesman said:
“Pride is about diversity, inclusion and the respect of expression.
“This is a very diverse community in our lovely seaside town, and it will be great to finally see everyone party together.”
