Presentations mark changing of the cadets for the town’s mayor

New mayor’s cadet Luca Tanner has been formally welcomed to his civic role in Bognor Regis.

Luca, 15, was presented with a certificate of recognition by the town’s mayor, Cllr Phil Woodall, before the town council’s meeting on Monday.

Luca is an Ordinary Cadet at the TS Sir Alec Rose unit of the sea cadets.

He said he was looking forward to his forthcoming months of accompanying the mayor to a range of functions. “I’m sure it will be good time,” he said.

Luca was put forward by the officers at TS Sir Alec Rose to become the mayor’s cadet.

Lt Gary Edgington said: “He was unanimously elected by the staff for his dedication and general good determination.”

Among the occasions Luca enjoys most with the sea cadets is the regular visit to Westergate House care home.

“He is always in the lead every time we ask for volunteers to go there,” said Lt Edgington.

Luca said: “I have been there three times in the past year. It’s always nice to talk to the old people in the home.”

The outgoing mayor’s cadet, Acting Leading Cadet Alice West, was also given a certificate before the meeting, which was held on her 18th birthday.

She said: “I’ve enjoyed being the mayor’s cadet and accompanying the mayor at the events where he would like a cadet with him. I have found it interesting.”
