Arundel Castle Cricket Ground open safe ‘play zones’ to provide lockdown relief

An Arundel based youth charity have launched free ‘play zones’ for families with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The ‘play zones’ at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground have been introduced to provide respite and relaxation for SEND families during the lockdown.

Families can book their own safe zone in which to enjoy the outdoors and be active, in a way that complies with the latest Covid-19 Government advice.

Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation understand that for many families with children with learning or physical disabilities, the lockdown has made them feel cut off and isolated, with limited or no access to the support and services they need.  Through ‘play zones’ the charity hopes to provide families with a safe place in which to enjoy valuable family time in a picturesque setting within the beautiful surroundings of the Sussex countryside.

Tim Shutt, director of Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation said: “Whilst we know that families living within the same household are able to undertake unlimited exercise, including in public spaces, we also know that public spaces may not be ideal spaces for families with children with special educational needs and disabilities.

“With this in mind Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation have designed a system of ‘play zones’ that will enable families to have their own zoned off space to be active, in a way that complies with all Government advice.

“Two of the four zones have cricket pitches but it is the space that matters and families can do whatever they choose within their own zones.”

‘Play zones’ launched on June 3, and many families have already enjoyed having access to a safe outdoor space in the stunning grounds of the Duke of Norfolk Estate.

Spaces are still available for June and July and families who would like to book a ‘play zone’ should email: richard@arundelcastlecricket.co.uk
